Custom fields

Extra details per location, as one value or a list.

Settings → Custom fields.

Custom fields are your own extra details on every location: a manager's name, parking notes, the brands a stockist carries, a list of services. You define the field once here, and every location gets a place to fill it in.

Adding a field

A field has a name, a type and a value mode.

Type

TypeFor
TextA single line — a manager's name, a parking note
Rich textFormatted text, with bold, italics, lists and links

One value or a list

One value gives the location a single box. List of values gives it a row per value, with a button to add another and drag handles to reorder them.

Use a list where the answer is naturally several things — Services, Brands carried, Languages spoken. On the storefront a list is shown as a list, rather than as one long line you have to comma-separate by hand.

Switching a field from one value to a list keeps what was there as the first value, so the change is safe.

The field key

Under the name, the app shows the key the values will be stored under, worked out from the name: Parking notes becomes parking_notes. The key is what the storefront and the Language settings refer to, and it does not change when you rename the field — so renaming a field never loses its values.

Filling them in

On a location, the Custom fields section lists every field you have defined. Fields left blank are simply not shown to shoppers, so it is fine to define a field only some locations use.

Showing them on the storefront

Nothing appears on the storefront until a locator asks for it. In Customize, under Location details:

  • Custom fields picks which fields this locator shows when a shopper opens a location, in the order you drag them.
  • Show custom field names decides whether each value is introduced by its name or stands on its own. Turn it off for something like a tagline.

Because the choice belongs to the profile, a compact locator beside a product can show one field while your main store finder shows six.

Renaming them for shoppers

The name you give a field here is an admin label. What shoppers read can be different: Settings → Language → Custom fields has a box per field.

Leave it blank and the field's own name is used. See Language.
