Language

Every word the locator shows a shopper.

Settings → Language.

Every word the locator shows a shopper is editable, from the search button to the message when nothing matches. Nothing is baked in.

How a blank box behaves

Leave a box blank and your theme's wording is used — which means it is translated along with the rest of your theme, in every language you sell in.

So the rule is: change a string here when you want different words, not when you want translated words. "Find a stockist" instead of "Search" is a job for this page. Spanish is a job for Shopify's translations.

Square brackets

Some strings have a bracketed word in them, which the locator fills in:

PlaceholderBecomes
[count]A number — of results, or of photos
[distance]A radius, with its unit: 20 mi
[hours]Today's opening times
[number]Which photo is showing

Keep the placeholder in whatever you write. Within [distance] can become Up to [distance] away, but dropping the bracket leaves the shopper with a sentence missing its number.

Custom field labels

Under Custom fields there is a box per field you have defined. What you type is the heading shoppers see above that field's value; leave it blank and the field's own name is used.

That separates two jobs that were fighting each other: the name in Settings → Custom fields is what you need to recognize the field in a list of thirty, and this is what reads well on your storefront. Parking (internal) in the app, Parking on the page.

Where the wording is shared

These strings belong to the shop, not to a profile, so every locator on your storefront reads the same. That is deliberate: two locators using different words for the same button is a bug, not a feature. What differs between locators is which things are shown — see Customize.
